Interactive App Design: TTrip
TTrip : Tap to Trip
My ideation for the interactive application is to create an app that users can easily experience and share their own ideas or information. To be specific, my idea is a creating a travel app which can guide users wherever they go. The main concept of this app is a communicating with other people by sharing and experiencing their recommendation for the trip.
Phase 1: Define
In this app, users can register their location, and start to find the best place for their trips. There are several different categories of food, shopping, and attractions. The ultimate goal is to make users also engaged in this app by adding their own path for new users, and to collect a great deal of new information from other. My target is wide, so when users firstly sign up for the app, I will add more option which makes users fill out their age or sex to provide appropriate information to them.
One of the most important requirements I need for this app is participation. For “TTrip”, two different participation are required.
First of all, my app “TTrip” is a suitable app for travelers who want to experience not a tourist thing but local things. So what I need is an active participation of the local people. To acquire their participation I add some advantages for the local people who may be the owner of the local restaurant, the person who have lived there for a long time, or experts who know a special information. For instance, I will put the advertising banner parts for them.
Secondly, to fulfill the final goal of the App (Sharing, communication), what I have to consider is the participation of the users. Thus I actually make a point system for users. There is a discount service when they reach the specific level of the point.
Phase 2: Shape
The only map built for travelers. Whether planning an epic cross-country road trip or a weekend escape, with this app users are always 5 minutes away from something new. Users can discover millions of places, like local diners and quirky roadside attractions, or scenic points, national parks, and hotels. Also, users can save places where they like.
In this app, there is a good GPS service that can introduce the proper information for the users when they travel. However, this app has no opportunity for users to participate.
Things to learn
– Accurate Location system
Thing to improve more
– how to make users participate in
– more diverse information
In this app, there are millions of traveler review, photos, and maps. With over 500 million reviews and opinions by travelers, TripAdvisor makes it easy to find the lowest airfare, best hotels, great restaurants, and fun things to do, wherever users go. Also booking options for hotels, restaurants and flights are just a tap away. TripAdvisor uses user’s location to send them a personalized hotel, restaurant, attraction and vacation rental recommendations as well as remember the places users visited through this app.
In this app, there is a guide system which is similar to my idea, but there is no option for users can also create their own trip course. When I see the guide parts there are too ordinary like introducing the history and tourist parts for users.
Things to learn
– clear visual signs
– various information
– review sections for users
The thing to improve more
– personal page for users

How your iOS device uses Location Services
With your permission, Location Services allows apps and websites (including Maps, Camera, Weather, and other apps) to use information from cellular1, Wi-Fi2, Global Positioning System (GPS)3 networks, and Bluetooth4 to determine your approximate location5. Apps that can show your location on the screen, including Maps, show your current (approximate) location using a blue marker. If your location can’t be determined precisely, you’ll see a blue circle around the marker. The size of the circle shows how precisely your location can be determined—the smaller the circle, the greater the precision. When Location Services is active, a black or white arrow icon appears in the status bar. Maps, directions, and location-based apps depend on data services. These data services are subject to change and might not be available in all geographic areas, resulting in maps, directions, or location-based information that might be unavailable, inaccurate, or incomplete. Compare the information provided on the device to your surroundings and defer to posted signs to resolve any discrepancies.
Give apps permission to use your Location
The first time an app tries to access your location, even in the background, it will ask for your permission. You’ll see which app is asking for permission to use your location, and the app’s developer may also explain how their app uses your location. Some apps will ask to use your location only while the app is in use. An app is considered “in use” when you’re actively using it in the foreground, or when it’s in use in the background, which the status bar will indicate. Other apps will ask for access to your location even when the app isn’t in use. When you allow an app to always use your location, iOS will remind you which apps are able to use your location after an app uses your location in the background.
Phase 3: Make/ Prototypes
The first prototype (concept sketch)
My first prototype is just a sketch of my idea which is proof of principle prototype. I want to test whether my idea is work or not. Also, I really need some comments that this app will help users to acquire new information. Through two users tests in the first week, I found out that my idea will be helpful to travelers. However, I need some more filter options to find a perfect recommendation to users. For instance, how many people you are traveling (friends, family, couples,?), or what food you want to eat?( Korean, Chinese, Italian..).
The second prototype (user experience, visual)
For the second week, I create basic steps for my app using Sketch program. I focus on user experience and visual things. After the first user testing, the things I considered were the more clear concept of the App and the decision of the style of my App. According to this in a user test, I asked these questions: a Color palette of the App, Title of the App, Background of the App, Other Options of the App, Symbols of the App
In user testings, I found out that there can be more variety in the starting pages, not only nature background like a mountain. Also using main colors purple and blue, other things have to be separated by colors. Also for the title of App, I will focus on researching different languages of the different nations by using word “travel”. The most important things I need to add to the functional part are the filter pages before users search some things.
Third prototype (user experience, visual, functional)
For this week, I add more details of the App like filtering pages, setting page, and map page. To fulfill my goals I create the service which can make users acquire new information through communication with other people. So add new system “feed” part that people also can share their photos along with their location. Moreover, I include the detail option page that can find a perfect recommendation for various different users.users. Lastly, I decide to provide personal managing page for users that they can approach the app more effectively and easily.
In last user test, I can add more details of the function of each page. I plan to include animation effects on the first page for visual parts and make some connection of the functions which can lead users easily to the next steps like adding a button like (start) (back) and (home).
Last week prototype
After last week comments, I edit some parts of my App and make my App more simple and easy way. The things that I changed is firstly font size to be perfect for the screen of a phone, and reorganized the main flow of my App. Also I used detailed filter options for perfect searching, but it looks too complicated, so I create simple questions to replace them.
The most important part that I modified is “create my trip” part. My first two ideas were using two different methods, recording (shooting video of the path), and mapping. But after I consider the fact that every user would be in different places to go there, I have to make other decision to be more practical and reasonable. So what I connect is “Google Maps” system. If the app is connected to the Google Maps, it will provide more accurate and flexible way for various users who are in different locations.
Three main flow of my App “TTrip”
1.Search Trip Advisor for you (main video)
In this video, I choose one of the categories, food, and one specific place, Brooklyn to clearly show how my app is working.
2.Create your trip to other users (-Connect to Google Map)
3. Exploring, Searching
