[Prototype]- Interactive Creative App – Susanna Back

February 19, 2018:

Proof of Principle Prototype (Concept)

  • Start- nostalgic qualities
  • In class testing
  • Define hypothesis –> Set goals –> Define scenarios –> Write a script –> Track/document results –> Summarize what you have learned
  • My ideation for the interactive project is to create a type of app platform that allows users to interact with others from around the world. The idea sprouted from a saying I was often told as a child, “We are all under the same sky.” The concept of this app will be to connect with people through sharing pictures of the sky- more specifically the clouds that inhibit and are constantly in passing. This is an outlet to allow for creative/noncreative individuals to share their ideas and thoughts through the sharing process by drawing on top of the given cloud image of the day. Users are not limited in creativity and can utilize the different marking/art tools.
  • The ultimate goal is to garner an understanding of how users create and think/perceive the same image through #hashtags. In cases of inappropriate content, users will be flagged and temporarily blocked through the app being cloudy/foggy inhibiting the user for a short amount of time because storms always pass.  At the end of the day, users will be able to see #hashtags through a list. Everyday there will be a different cloud(s) from around the world uploaded and users will also have the option to upload pictures, as well, for random draw in the coming days.

Proof of Principle Prototype (Concept and Research)/ User Experience Prototype

  • After last weeks exchange of ideas, the things to consider and think about became clear. I wanted to create an app that could connect users through a creative outlet. It will be a platform to illustrate over pictures of clouds where users can share their illustrations to the app community.
  • IMG_8758
  • Things to consider:
    • a reward system, if any, what would they be
      • Unlocking/ Star point system
    • how to make it appealing to a specific audience
      • maybe for artists only
  • After thorough research, I found that there was actually a society for people that are fascinated by clouds (https://cloudappreciationsociety.org/) . This group is a tribe of cloud watchers, currently 35,000+ in over 100 countries around the world. They have a manifesto and everything (a little strange, but good) !
  • So I was thinking- can I do a collaborative app merge with CloudSpotter?
  • One sentence statement:
    • This will be a creative art project that will target artists, specifically,  to build a community through creativity

Visual Prototype (Aesthetic)

  • This weeks prototype was the visual step. Above are screen shots of possible app layouts that I wish to pursue.
  • I want to create a creative outlet that allows for content creators to connect with one another through the appreciation of art and clouds.

Functional Prototype (Technical)

  • This weeks prototype was the functional/technical prototype step.
  • Finally, a name for the app!
    • *drum roll please*  *badababadadmmmmmnmnm*

Cumulus

  • Reason- by definition, it is a noun meaning a cloud forming rounded masses heaped on each other above a flat base at fairly low altitude BUT ALSO VISUALLY, cumulus clouds are the FLUFFY clouds we would normally mentally associate clouds with. Therefore the name “Cumulus”
  • Thesis: The goal of this personal project is to create a creative outlet that allows for content creators to connect with one another through the appreciation of art and clouds.

Process:

  • Here are some notes:
  • IMG_0531
  • After a lot of thought and consideration, I refined my app with the suggestions from my past prototypes.

Sketch Screenshots:

  • Below are screen shots of the Cumulus app!

Technicalities:

  • Salutations along with current weather report, based off of location of user.
  • Users can draw on top of the cloud of the day to create new artwork everyday with the supplied tools.
  • Published work will be sent to the ‘Around the World’ option on the main screen where content creators can ‘like’ (anonymously) a work of art, where the owner of the artwork will be notified in the ‘Notifications’ tab.
  • Following system implemented, but 100% anonymous!
  • ‘Me’ profile, made so that uses can take ownership of their past works while displaying in an orderly manner.
  • Users also have to option of selecting the ‘Explore’ tab, that will allow for hashtag (#) searches that individuals have tagged on their creations.
  • Easy exit, click on the exit cloud after using.

Illustrations:

  • The illustrations used are all credited to the talented artist, Martin Feijoó. The Cumulus app prototype contains the (Me) profile of Martin Feijoó.
  • Here are some more of his cloud illustrations! (below)

  • Really cool right?

  • The main goal of this app was to have a simple user flow, hence the minimal transitional animations.

Prototype Video:

  • App prototype video focus in vertical orientation.

Ta-da!
